US massage-on-demand service Soothe to launch into UK

US-based massage-on-demand service Soothe has announced plans to launch into the UK on January 26.

Soothe allows users to book a vetted massage therapist to their home, office or hotel room via its app or website.

Available services include Swedish, deep tissue, sports and pre-natal massage for individuals and couples, in treatment lengths of 60, 90 or 120 minutes for a fixed fee of £65, £80 or £95.

The service will launch into London and the surrounding areas in January with plans to expand into other UK cities later in the year.

The company was started by Merlin Kauffman in 2013 while he was at Harvard Business School, a period when he was frequently traveling, and found it difficult to schedule a massage appointment outside standard business hours.

Soothe is available in 50 cities worldwide and has more than 8,000 massage therapists on its books.

“Our growth is really due to the experience our therapists deliver,” said Kauffman. “They provide very high quality treatments without the hassle of finding parking or dealing with traffic. In addition, our massage therapists earn about two to three times more than in the traditional setting.”
