Dermalogica launches FITE campaign
Skincare house Dermalogica has launched its FITE charity campaign. FITE, which stands for Financial Independence Through Entrepreneurship, plans to help 25,000 women by 2012. Plans for the campaign were revealed in Professional Beauty's September issue and will begin being put into practice this month. The programme has launched into the UK market and 50 other international territories and aims to help disadvantaged women to start up businesses in any industry through a partnership with non-profit microfinance leader to help facilitate loans. Dermalogica founder Jane Wurwand, who herself could not get a $10,000 loan to start Dermalogica in 1986, said that helping entrepreneurial women was a cause close to her heart. 'This initiative is designed to help marginalised women in the belief that women's financial independence is a key step in creating a healthy world economy,' says Wurwand. 'The skincare industry is our model, because it allows women of modest means to create stability for themselves, since the start-up costs arecomparatively low. From the beginning of our business, we've been an activepart in helping women get their start. And now we're extending the concept beyond our own industry.'
