First home-use gel polish launches into UK
The first at-home gel polish brand is set to launch online and into department stores next month. Red Carpet Manicure is a new brand that will offer consumers the opportunity to apply gel polish at home without visiting a salon. The brand launched in the US in September and will hit UK stores by the end of the year. The adoption of gel polish technology by the retail market could come as a blow to some salons, who have seen business boom as a result of the 'two week manicures', which last longer than polish and are faster to apply and remove than classic gel. Until now gel-polish brands such as CND's Shellac, Nail Harmony's Gelish and Jessica's Geleration have all been distributed for the exclusive use of nail technicians and beauty therapists. Red Carpet Manicure will launch with 36 shades and will be available in two starter kits, each including a home-use LED lamp and the removal liquids as well as . Prices for the kits will start at £59.95. The company was founded by two former Coty executives, Barry Shields and Bruce Kowalsky. Shields said: 'Much like the at-home, do-it-yourself hair colour industry, gel polish is a niche opportunity to take a complicated and pricey professional application and bring it to consumers in three easy steps.'
