Raison d'Etre shares insight into 2012 spa trends
Anna Bjurstam, spa expert and managing director of Nordic life spa consultancy, Raison d'Etre, has released her spa trend predictions for next year. Bjurstam has predicted five trends, which she thinks spas should look out for in 2012. The five trends are: 1. Booking spa time not treatments 2. A focus on eye treatments 3. Age specific treatments 4. Nutrition in spas 5. A rise in community spas Bjurstam said: 'We predict that the book-a-time trend will become increasingly popular in 2012 to meet spa-goers shifting perceptions of luxury towards unique authentic experiences.' She also believes that the influx of eyebrow bars to market have led to more dedicated treatments concerning the eye zone including threading, tinting, waxing, lash extensions and eye massages. More generation spas are expected to appear in 2012, which will adapt to the needs of different age groups such as spas targeting younger groups that focus on preventative aspects of ageing and 55+ spas focusing on rehabilitation treatments. Nutrition in spas will be more imperative as spas coincide treatments with necessary diet adjustments. Next year will also see a rise of community spas, according to Bjurstam, where socialising will be a major aspect of the spa environment. She added: 'The growing trend for Hammam rituals and treatment is a great illustration of this, building on the traditions of communal bathing and cleansing.'
