Virgin therapists awarded £300k injury payout
Two former beauty therapists have been awarded £300,430 in compensation from Virgin Atlantic after they developed repetitive strain injury from giving massages at Heathrow. Jayne Evans and Michelle Hindmarch, who worked in the Clubhouse Lounge at Heathrow Terminal 3, said they had developed pain in the wrists, shoulders and back from giving frequent shiatsu massages to travellers and that theinjuries had forced them to end their beauty therapy careers. The therapists said the majority of their work involved massaging male clients for whom stronger pressure was needed. Evans, who still works for Virgin in an administrative role, was awarded £230,972 to compensate both for physical injuries and for depression caused by having to give up the career she loved. Hindmarch, who left Virgin to work elsewhere, was awarded £69,458. Virgin Atlantic accepted liability but disputed the amount of compensation due.
