Young women care more about beauty than health
Almost half of young women are more concerned with their looks than their health. Some 41% of 18 to 24 year olds admitted they worried more about their physical appearance than their fitness. More than two thirds of women (70%) admitted that they don't do the minimum daily recommended amount of exercise every week. When asked why not, 59% of young women gave reasons related to beauty and their appearance. More than one in ten of the 2,000 females questioned in the new report commissioned by Cancer Research UK and Tesco said unflattering gym gear put them off exercising, while 16% admitted that they were worried about ruining their hair and make-up during a workout. Celebrity psychologist Jo Hemmings said: 'These statistics show that there is a disturbing trend for young women to place a higher value on their physical appearance than on their long term health.'
