World Spa & Wellness Asia 2018 a roaring success
250 spa delegates attended the first-ever World Spa & Wellness Asia 2018 convention on May 21–22 to learn how to expand their business and develop the talents of their management team.
The event, held at the JW Marriott Hotel, Phuket, Thailand, drew in CEO and owners of spas, hotels and wellness centres across the globe, and all were impressed by the speaker line-up, educational sessions, brand showcase and networking opportunities on offer.
The event was sponsored by LPG Systems and did what it set out to do – bring together top-level spa and wellness operators with leading industry suppliers.
Mark Moloney, managing director of Trades Exhibitions, which owns World Spa & Wellness and sister brand Professional Beauty, gave the opening remarks and started the convention programme.
Standout sessions included keynote talks by Matthew Allison, founder and CEO of Space Cycle, who discussed why disruption is good for spa and wellness businesses; and Lyndall Mitchell, founder and CEO of Aurora Spa & The Essentials Australia, who explained how to work on the best version of you, both personally and professionally.
The panel ‘Who is influencing the influencers?’ was also popular and received the most engagement, with delegates discussing the impact of digital on the industry, how to keep up with trends, and who to follow and why.
Many had questions for the panel – which included Stephanie Shiu, editor of AsiaSpa, Thailand; Catharine Nicol, freelance journalist; Alex Niu, influencer, Hong Kong; and Vivienne Tang, founder and CEO of Destination Deluxe – on using social media to their advantage and how to link up with influencers.
There was also an intimate brand showcase from LPG Systems, Aromatherapy Associates and Biologique Recherche, and a matchmaking app which allowed delegates and exhibitors to arrange one-to-one meetings.
Delegates and exhibitors were very happy with how the event turned out and are already asking about the topics and set-up for next year’s convention.
