The annual Global Wellness Day will take place this Saturday, June 13. Launched in Turkey in 2012 to highlight the importance of living well, the day has grown year on year.

The not-for-profit initiative, which takes place on the second Saturday of June every year, now has participants in 53 countries around the world, with 49 official Global Wellness Day Ambassadors committed to promoting the day.

Among the ambassadors are Kira Walton, co-founder of skincare brand Voya, Frank Pitsikalis, founder and chief executive of spa software provider Resort Suite, Nicolas Ronco, founder and chief executive of Yelospa, Adrian Egger, managing director of Thermarium, César Tejedor, chief executive of Massage Around the World, the UK Spa Association and talian skincare brand Comfort Zone, among others.

This Saturday, spas, resorts and wellness providers around the world will be hosting events and initiatives in celebration of the day, established by Belgin Aksoy, founder of Turkish detonation spa Richmond Nua Wellness Spa.

Businesses that have signed up to Global Wellness Day include Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts, which will be hosting events including poolside yoga and tai chi, sunrise meditation, walks and wellness talks at many of its hotels and resorts globally.

Simon Casson, chairman, global spa task force at Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts, said: “This is a terrific way to promote all aspects of what we are doing at our properties every day to advance wellness through our spas, fitness facilities, restaurants and room service, and of course our initiatives targeted to employees.”

Anantara Hotels Resorts & Spas has created a photography series celebrating yoga to mark the day, and is also offering its social media followers the opportunity to win a number of prizes on the day, including a two-night stay at the at Anantara Phuket Layan Resort & Spa.

Comfort Zone will offer back and neck massages in the Technogym arena at Expo Milano, to give just a few examples.

Global Wellness Day suggests adhering to seven different lifestyle principles in order to improve your wellbeing levels: walk one hour a day, drink more water, don’t use plastic bottles, eat organic and locally sourced produce, do a good deed, eat a family dinner and go to bed at 10pm.
