5 steps to reducing hair loss
Hair loss affects most people at some point in their lives. Here at Divine Herbal we have been helping customers across the UK and beyond put a stop to hair loss for over 5 years. Our approach is simple – no chemicals! Our ‘Hair Oil’ – for hair loss contains 31 plant oils and extracts…and absolutely nothing else! We believe that nature knows best and that a holistic approach should be the starting point for everyone – male or female who is noticing an increase in hair shedding. Contrary to popular belief though, hair loss is multi-faceted and no amount of products or pills can totally eradicate the problem if you don’t tackle it from every angle. Here’s what you can do to give yourself the best possible shot at reducing hair loss…
Step 1 Switch to a natural shampoo. Although it isn’t common, we have had feedback from customers who swapped their SLS-containing shampoo for a natural alternative and noticed an immediate reduction in hair shedding. Although ‘Sodium Lauryl Sulfate’ doesn’t affect everyone, it can cause a reaction in some people that may contribute to hair loss. Shampoos without SLS are now widely available on the high street and can be picked up in under a fiver if you know where to look!
Step 2 Massage your scalp once daily. This will help to improve blood circulation (and therefore nutrient distribution) to the scalp and hair follicles. Don’t rub too vigorously, a deep kneading movement using your fingers is sufficient. Ensure your scalp is dry when doing this.
Step 3 Diet. It’s true that what we put into our bodies is reflected on the outer surface. Skin and hair are both affected by what we consume. Healthy fats and protein consumption play an integral part in hair and skin function, as do the more obvious nutrient-rich foods such as vegetables, fruit and salad. Superfoods – such as Goji Berry, Wheatgrass, Acai and Baobab are also an excellent source of essential vitamins and nutrients, and well worth supplementing your diet with.
Step 4 Have your thyroid function and iron levels checked by your GP. Over the years countless customers have told us how taking iron supplements made a big difference to the amount of hair they were shedding. Just don’t forget to consume Vitamin C too; to help the body increase the absorption of iron.
Step 5 Stress – although we cannot always avoid it, giving yourself a few minutes break from it can make all the difference. Why? Because stress hormones (e.g cortisol) send signals to the hair follicles to enter the telogen (resting) phase and stop producing new hair. Although we shed on average 100 hairs per day, we rely on new hair growth to compensate for the loss. In the telogen phase the hair follicles continue to shed hair yet do not produce new ones. By giving yourself a brief respite from stress you are allowing the hair follicles to function more efficiently again.
