As awareness of the long-term risks associated with poor health continue to grow, resort and destination spas have become a deservedly topical issue within the health and wellness marketplace. Highly popular spa resorts such as Thailand’s Chiva-Som and Kamalaya Koh Samui and Champneys in the UK continue to thrive but for every such success story, there are other local, national and international spa facilities that have failed. In a competitive wellbeing arena where consumers have almost unlimited options, can resort and destination spas develop the wider market appeal necessary to survive in the long-term, or are they destined to remain the domain of the select few who can currently afford them?
