PB meets Lydia Sarfati, President and Founder of Repêchage
Professional Beauty catches up with Lydia Sarfati, President and Founder of Repêchage, the first company to bring seaweed-based skincare treatments and cosmetics to fruition in 30 countries, about the new products, special offers and live demonstrations we will see at Professional Beauty Dublin.
Since the launch of the world-renowned Four Layer Facial in 1980 Repêchage continues to create innovative treatment masks to meet the needs of all skin types and conditions including anti-aging, acne, anti-cellulite, dry, normal and oily skin types utilizing new advances in seaweed technologies and natural botanicals.
PB: What would you say was your most popular product?
LS: The Repêchage Four Layer Facial is the #1 selling professional facial around the world. For over 30 years this facial has been the favorite of salon and spa professionals all over the globe. It has been so successful because of the incredible “wow” factor it provides to clients. Layer upon layer of fresh European seaweed rejuvenates, tones and helps noticeably firm the skin. Its uni-dose packaging allows professionals to provide the same “wow” factor every single treatment, every time. Perfect inventory control, no double dipping, perfect results. This is why it is as popular today as it was when I launched it in 1980.
PB: What makes your products special over the competition?
LS: In the 70s and 80s, when I started my career, what was popular back then was the concept of natural products - products made from fruit like strawberries and tomatoes - it was like a fruit salad on your face - literally - without much research nor results. In 1980, when I launched The Four Layer Facial based on seaweed, it revolutionized the skin care and beauty industry. I was the first to bring science and clinical results into the skin care realm. Seaweed was a unique concept and is still today. Seaweed is proven to have extraordinary benefits of cell rejuvenation, anti-oxidants, minerals and trace elements. It supports life at the cellular level. As more research came out, more and more brands hopped on the seaweed band wagon. However, how we continue to differentiate ourselves through sources of our seaweed, types and variety of seaweed as well as extraction process that we do ourselves through a proprietary method that maintains the integrity of the sea plant and its nutrients.
PB: Do you provide any extra services, advice or training programmes for professionals who use your products in their salons?
LS: Yes, we offer Post-Graduate Skin Care Academy classes at our Repêchage Europe headquarters. For those unable to attend, we also provide a Repêchage Online Evaluation Certificate available under “Pros Only” on www.repechageuk.com. When a client becomes a Repêchage Spa de Beauté, we also provide in-salon education as well access to step-by-step educational DVD’s and manuals.
PB: Why should salon owners visit your stand at the show?

PB: Any other plans for the show?

In our ever-changing industry, more and more consumers are opting for shorter express treatments of 30 minutes or less. This is the latest in spa trends for our busy multi-tasking clients who don’t have time to spend all day at the salon. Today, people are more likely to ask how long does it take, rather than how much it will cost. By implementing express treatments in your salon or spa you will increase your overall business in revenue and volume.

PB: What tips would you give salon owners looking to introduce a new line into their salon?
LS: When making your choice about which brands to carry, look for a well respected company has been in business for a number of years and is reputable. It is also important to take into consideration whether or not they provide education, marketing support as well as results-oriented services. You want to make sure that you are choosing a brand that wants you to be successful!
Once you have chosen a line, let your clients know! The best way to get the word out about a new service or brand in your salon or spa is by having a launch event. Create flyers, use your social media outlets and inform the press that your business is bringing new and innovative treatments to your community. You can provide complimentary skin analysis and express treatments so attendees can get a feel for the new products! Show, tell and you will sell!
