As a beauty therapist, clients look to you for advice on the best facial oils to use depending on their skin type, which is why it’s so important for you to know your stuff.

In our latest PB Live, Eve Taylor London’s education manager Matt Taylor gives us the lowdown on the best facial oils for varying skin types, covering teenage, sensitive and menopausal.

Essential oils to use on teenage skin

“One of the things teenagers experience the most is excess oiliness and many will think about stripping the skin to remove it, but you want their skincare regime to have a more regulatory effect, to normalise the skin and bring it back into balance,” explains Taylor.

“Recommend these clients use great essential oil blends on the skin such as ylang ylang, which slows down the sebaceous activity while also having an anti-inflammatory action – great for calming breakouts. Cedarwood is good too as it’s antiseptic and ideal for uplifting their mood if they feel down about how their skin looks; while lemongrass is very stringent and deep cleansing.”

Essential oils to use on sensitive skin

“With sensitive skin, there are different degrees of sensitivity. At Eve Taylor, we’ve got an amazing blend called Soothing Aromatic Serum, which is our bestselling product,” says Taylor.

“It’s formulated with a wonderful blend of Geranium, which helps balance skin – especially good for oily and dry complexions, as well as eucalyptus which cools redness and irritations; and lavender, which is known for being soothing.”

He adds: “However, If your client has got severely irritated and hypersensitive skin, I’d recommend using more of a plain carrier oil in the first instance to keep their skin barrier intact, and then use essential oils later on.”

Essential oils to use on menopausal skin

“For menopausal clients, we’ve got some great options available at Eve Taylor. Look for blends that include essential oils rosewood, good for regenerating the skin tissue while also having a comforting effect on the senses. Women go through lots of feelings during this time, they feel overwhelmed, so this helps to lift their spirits,” explains Taylor.

“Other essential oils to look for include clary sage, which has a great effect on the mind set and mood, helping to lift people through the day if they’re feeling low.”
