Global Wellness Day celebrated with 24-hour wellness class livestream

On Saturday, June 13, 2020, the ninth annual Global Wellness Day (GWD) celebration was helpd online, focusing on mental health, stress, immunity, nutrition, indoor exercises, love and compassion.

GWD 2020 offered wellness activities livestreaming for 24 hours across all its social media platforms from sunrise to sunset around the globe.

GWD showcased a range of educational and complementary presentations — ranging from wingsuit base jump to dance, astrology, yoga, pilates, Zumba, nutrition and plant-forward cooking classes on its YouTube channel.

I was excited to be invited to be one of the key performers, this year, hosting a yoga session at 1pm UK time.

I teach vinyasa flow, working with the breath, weaving in poetry, taking  students deeper into postures and their practice. Leaving my classes, you feel as if you’ve had a reset. If you missed my class, it will be available to watch back soon via the Global Wellness Day YouTube channel.

Belgin Aksoy founded Global Wellness Day in 2012, with the slogan “One day you can change your whole life”.

GWD is celebrated around the world today in more than 150 countries across seven continents, all participating with complementary activities that support wellness.

Choosing to make Wellness a lifestyle, Global Wellness Day shares seven simple principles to follow which you can adapt quickly into your daily life.

  • Walk for an hour
  • Drink more water
  • Don’t use plastic bottles
  • Eat healthy food
  • Do a good deed
  • Have a family dinner with a loved one
  • Sleep at 10 pm

Keep an sys on the Global Wellness Day channel, where the full line-up of livestreamed classes will be available to watch back soon.

Kirsty Mawhinney is a yoga teacher and director of skincare and beauty brand agency Skin Insight. She also taught weekly yoga classes at the Professional Beauty World Spa Wellness offices before lockdown.
