Laser hair reduction: triple vs single wavelength systems

Laser hair reduction is an in-demand treatment that can enhance any Beauty salon or clinic’s service offering while providing a high earning potential.

The never-ending consumer desire for being hair-free fuels innovation and increases the popularity of laser hair removal treatments.

Choosing a laser technology that works best for your clients is vital to your clinic’s success and profitability and to ensure that your treatments are safe and effective.

However, with so many devices on the market, it's important to understand the key differences between the technologies.

Today, I’m focusing on the difference between the triple wavelength technology versus the single wavelength. The power of three is simply greater than the power of one. The triple wavelength combination is a relatively new innovation.

Alexandrite (755nm)

Alexandrite wavelength is the shortest of the three. It allows for the greatest absorbency of the melanin chromophore. This provides the best solution for the widest range of hair types and colours, especially thin and light hair.

Diode (810nm)

The Diode wavelength is very effective on darker skin types but is less effective on lighter, finer hair. Its deep penetration levels offer the best results for skin types I to IV.

ND: YAG (1064nm)

The YAG wavelength is a longer wave. It can reach deeper follicles housing more terminal hair. It is also safer to use on darker skin.

Triple wavelength lasers

Modern lasers such as 3D Trilogyice combine three wavelengths. This allows for higher coverage and outstanding results.

The triple laser transfers energy downward, reaching different depths of the follicle to create even follicular damage.

3D Trilogyice employs volumetric heating of the dermal tissue, altering the stem cell function of the hair, thus affecting regrowth.

Another key difference between triple and single wavelength lasers is the way they operate. Standard lasers use the “shots” method, which works by exposing hair follicles to a single high-energy pulse.

This can be rather painful for your clients and carries a higher risk of complications. It's also important to note that treatment with a single-wavelength laser is a slower process.

Rather than exposing hair follicles to single, high-energy pulses, 3D Trilogyice uses an in-motion protocol that provides fast, comfortable and effective hair removal on most skin types. It works by gradually heating the dermis and damaging hair follicles while avoiding injury to the surrounding tissue.

The handpiece of the 3D Trilogyice slides over the skin in paintbrush-like motion, enabling full coverage while the contact cooling system ensures virtually pain-free and effective hair removal. The combination of the latest technology and innovative design provides a safe, fast and effective hair removal solution.
