Male grooming product launches increase by 70%

The number of global beauty and personal care product launches targeted specifically at men rose by 70% between 2007 and 2012, according to research from market analyst firm Mintel.

Male grooming products accounted for 6% of new launches in 2012, up from 4% in 2007. The most popular product claims for new launches for the male, as well as the female market, are botanical and herbal properties, with 25% laying claim to the former and 36% to the latter.

23% of new products for men are labelled as hydrating and moisturising, compared to 36% for women. Emmanuelle Moeglin, global fragrance and personal care analyst at Mintel, said: “The men’s grooming market has boomed in recent years, as an increasing number of men wanting to look their best look to products specifically targeted towards them to do the best job possible."
