New salon recommendation site aims to be Trip Advisor for the beauty industry
My Beauty Spot is a new user-generated website designed to be the “Trip Advisor for the beauty industry”.
Founder Lisa Lee was inspired to set up the site after her Facebook group of the same name was receiving a lot of treatment and salon recommendations. Using the same community-based platform as Trip Advisor and Mumsnet, the new site aims to group these queries together in one place and allow better functionality for users to easily exchange information.
Beauty businesses and mobile therapists can sign up to the site for free and create a profile with information and contact listings. My Beauty Spot community members can then track down services and rate their experiences, whereby salon owners will have the opportunity to respond to a client’s review or questions. There is also a capability for users to “favourite” a salon or therapist, visible on the businesses’ profile.
Lee commented: “The way that consumers are engaging with beauty products and services is evolving, with big brands paying big money for celebrity endorsement and beauty bloggers and vloggers. We know there is a demand for real people sharing real reviews and we believe that My Beauty Spot is the platform to offer just that.”
Saks Beauty at David Lloyd in Leeds was among the first salons to sign up.
