Professional Beauty London exhibitor Waxu to appear on BBC’s Dragons’ Den

Gemma Cafferkey, founder of waxing brand Waxu, will appear on Dragons' Den, the BBC programme that sees budding entrepreneurs given a platform to pitch their business ideas to a panel of investors.

On an episode airing this Sunday, January 15, Cafferkey will pitch a business plan to the panel, focusing on her brand’s advanced wax formula and specially developed intimate waxing technique.

Cafferkey was approached by the production company behind the show in January 2016 as they were looking for self-funded business owners who have developed their own products. An audition and due diligence process was required before filming took place in June 2016.

“[The business is] growing really fast and there's been really positive feedback. This was a once-in-a-lifetime experience and I was delighted to have the chance to meet the Dragons, and share my brand with them,” Cafferkey told The Nottingham Post.

“It will be seen by millions of people, so it gets the word out that there's a revolution in the industry and raises awareness of the brand.”

Cafferkey launched her intimate waxing range in September 2015 and now around 100 salons in the UK use the products. Waxu recorded an £80,000 turnover in its first year and is predicted to have sales in excess of £750,000 within three years. She also founded beauty salon Beautification 12 years ago, which now employs 12 staff.

Waxu are also exhibiting at Professional Beauty London, which is taking place at the ExCel centre on February 26–27. Register for your ticket here.

Dragons’ Den airs on BBC2 on Sunday at 8pm.
