Sleep to be big focus of wellness industry in 2017

Healthy living is becoming a status symbol and consumers are increasingly willing to spend money to improve their sleep quality, according to Euromonitor.

In its Top 10 Global Consumer Trends 2017 report, the market analyst said wellness practices would become increasingly aligned with wealth and status this year. The report highlights the explosion of “boutique” gyms and fitness studios, with expensive fusion workout classes in “urban hubs” and spas serving as markers of identity and status on social media platforms.

A focus on sleep is another trend predicted to infiltrate the wellness sector in a big way in 2017. Last year, premium spa brands such as Comfort Zone and Espa developed treatments specifically to address sleep issues and help clients achieve regenerating rest; and Euromonitor said consumers are increasingly interested in, and willing to spend money on, products that promote healthy sleep.
