UK prestige makeup market up nearly 10% in the past year
The UK prestige makeup market saw 9.8% growth between March 2016 and February 2017, according to new research.
The prestige makeup market in the UK was valued at £770 million between March last year and February this year, according to a new report from the NPD Group. The growth was driven by product categories including foundation, lip colour, brow and other face products.
Sales of foundations were up 11% year-on-year, reaching a value of £206. Foundation with billed added benefits saw particularly strong growth. Moisturising foundations were up 50% while foundations said to offer oil-control properties increased by 25%.
June Jensen, director of NPD UK Beauty, said: “Women are seeking products with added benefits. “This presents an exciting opportunity for brands who we expect will be enhancing their current long-wear technology, while developing new textures and light-weight formulations.”
Lip colour sales rose 23% (to £80m), brow makeup 38% (to £29m), eye primer sales 11% and face primers 9.7% in the same period.
Long-wear makeup also proved a strong growth sector over the past year, with long-wear brow products up 105%, powder 41%, lip colour 33% and foundation 15%.
