World Wellness Weekend 2022 underway, with "Living well together" theme
The 6th annual World Wellness Weekend (WWW) kicks off today with the theme "Living well together".
The campaign involves three days of free wellness activities, organised by spas and practitioners around the world, in a bid to make wellness accessible to more people.
The activities started this morning at sunrise in Fiji and will run until sunset on Sunday, September 18, in Hawaii, coordinated by 150 ambassadors in over 900 cities.
WWW is organised by Jean-Guy de Gabriac, owner of consultancy Tip Touch and conference director for the World Spa & Wellness Convention.
4,000 participating venues in 140 countries will be accessible on the World Wellness Map, for consumers to find free, inclusive wellness group activities, classes and workshops near them.
Professionals and venues sign up for free on wellmap.org and schedule free group classes Sept 16, 17 and 18 at their facility or in local parks and recreational areas.
Consumers can then use the map to search via location or type of activity and book.
Activities on the calendar this year incilde yoga and fitness classes, guided relaxation and meditations, cancer awareness webinars by Wellness For Cancer, wellness activities in hot springs and traditional heat ceremonies in saunas with the support of the International Sauna Association.
Other activities that celebrate local wellness practices will include tree planting in Brazil and Vietnam, samba classes, flamenco and ballet, as well as “Tap & Clap” sessions in Quebec, Canada.
The weekend is designed to help spas to grow their client base by showcasing how their classes and activities can help local residents to be more active, more often.
World Wellness Weekend is aligned with the United Nations’ third Sustainable Development Goal, "to ensure healthy lives and promote wellbeing for all at all ages" and is one of the partners of the European Week of Sports organized by the European Commission.
It is supported by more than 60 organisations and trade bodies, including UK Spa Association, Cidesco, ISPA, IHRSA and the Spa Industry Association.
