Spas in recession-hit Spain target international clients

The Spanish spa and wellness industry is increasingly turning its focus to the international market in a bid to overcome the recession. Reports from the country indicate that a growing number of businesses are opting to actively target an international clientele, in light of the challenging economic conditions in the domestic market.

Alejandro Bataller, vice president of the Sha Wellness Clinic in Alicante, explained that while the clinic’s affluent clientele means the business has continued to grow in spite of the crisis, there is no getting away from the recession. He said: “It’s true that the domestic market has not grown at the same speed as other markets, and of course the economic recession in Spain has affected our clientele [too]”.
