Beauty at The Gate to open male-only salon in January
Professional Beauty Award-winning salon Beauty at The Gate near Grimsby is to open a male-only salon.
Man at The Gate is on the same site as Beauty at The Gate but in a separate, 150sqm unit. The salon is set to open in January.
Co-owner Paul Beatty told Professional Beauty he and wife Samantha decided to open a male-only salon when the unit became available. “I do feel there is a market for it, but there isn’t a place for [men] to go. Beauty salons are set up for women, not really to cater for men, and there’s nothing like this in our area.” said Beatty.
Man at The Gate will carry Elemis Men and use grooming brand The Bluebeards Revenge for wet shaves. A full scope of treatments will be on offer including LVL Enhance, HD Brows, 3D-lipo and laser hair removal, though the salon will not offer full-body massages or intimate waxing.
The men’s salon will measure 750sq ft and have a reception area and two treatment rooms. It will feature cable TV in the reception area and an iPad allowing clients to select treatment room music. The remaining space will be turned into a relaxation room and two extra treatment rooms for the main salon.
If successful, Beatty said rolling out the concept to local towns could be a possibility. “I think a men’s salon would lend itself well to opening up a few places on high streets. We’re looking at it from a brand perspective rather than a one off,” he said.
Beauty at The Gate won PB’s Beauty Salon of the Year: Three Rooms or Fewer 2016 award and is a finalist in the same category in the 2017 awards, with winners due to be announced on Sunday, February 26 2017, in London.
