Consumers more likely to self-diagnose skin conditions than see a professional

27% of people have sought help for a skin condition online through searches compared to just 19% who have seen a dermatologist.

The findings come from skin conditions brand Dermalex, which commissioned YouGov to conduct a survey into the population’s experiences with skin, conditions like eczema, psoriasis, rosacea and acne.

It found that 50% of the UK’s adult population has suffered with a skin condition, and that 28% had covered up their skin due to embarrassment.

Most significantly, 38% of sufferers of skin conditions admitted they didn’t fully understand their condition and what had caused it. This knowledge gap highlights the key role dermatologists and skin specialists can play in taking control of skin conditions.
