England’s acne hotspots and most skin-friendly regions
New research from Superdrug has revealed Somerset as England’s most skin-friendly location, with Gloucestershire and Bath also in the top three.
Somerset’s low scores across the categories lead to it taking the top spot, with other areas in the south west of England also ranking highly.
The research investigated acne prescriptions in 42 regions, the increase and decrease in the number of these prescriptions over the past seven years, PM2.5 pollution levels, obesity prescriptions and the percentage of the population that smoke.
The regions were then given a rating between 0 (worst) and 100 (best) based on their performance.
Somerset ranked number one in each of the acne prescription factors, meaning the area had the lowest number of acne prescriptions per 1,000 residents.
It also appeared in the top five best when it came to having low pollution levels and low smoking levels among the adult population.

On the other end of the ratings, Northeast and North Central London placed last and second-to-last respectively, with Northeast London scoring just five points out of 100 in the prescription category, with 177 prescriptions per 1,000 people, and just a 9% decrease in acne prescriptions compared to the national average of 19%.
Acne is a big concern for brits, with “acne getting worse” revealed as 2022’s most searched for beauty worry earlier this year.
The region also had the worst pollution based on the concentration of PM2.5 (atmospheric particulate matter), with a concentration of 13.45 compared to Somerset’s 6.29.
