First Six Senses resort in Europe, the Six Senses Douro Valley, to open on July 15
The first Six Senses resort in Europe, the Six Senses Douro Valley, is set to open in Portugal on July 15.
The resort, which has 57 rooms and suites, sits on 22 acres of land in Portugal’s wine producing Douro valley and will feature a 2,230sq m spa.
The spa at the Six Senses Douro Valley will comprise 10 treatment rooms, five of which offer views of the surrounding vineyards, an indoor and an outdoor pool and a gym.
Among the other facilities at the spa will be the Vitality Suite, featuring a sauna, a chromotherapy steam room, a laconium, experience showers and a herbal bath.
Treatments at the spa draw inspiration from the wine-producing theme of the region. The antioxidant Complete Grape Rejuvenation includes dry body brushing, a grape pulp and grape seed oil exfoliation, a body wrap and a scalp massage.
The Schist Stone and Almond Body Soother includes the use of schist stones, common in the Douro region and associated with vineyards.
The treatment sees warm schist stones placed on different chakras in the body, to soothe and help release tension. The treatment also entails a deep tissue massage with anti-inflammatory sunflower oil and a body wrap.
The spa will also feature a nail bar where guests can enjoy a glass of wine from a nearby vineyard, or a non-alcoholic drink, while having a manicure and pedicure.
A series of wellness activities and services will also be on offer, including forest bathing, aerial yoga and personal training sessions.
Visiting yoga practitioners will host classes sand programmes at the resort later in the year, as part of Six Senses’ Yogic Programme.
Elements offered under the programme umbrella will include Yogic Detox, Yogic Sleep and Discover Yoga.
