How to use photofacials to treat multiple skin concerns
IPL photofacials can be used in your salon to treat several skin conditions, such as sun damage and hyperpigmentation, with a single device.
Lynton’s advanced aesthetic treatment illumiFacial combines IPL technology with peels and serums for a multi-step resurfacing facial is designed to target textural changes in the skin, fine lines and wrinkles, rosacea and more for smooth, glowing skin.
In our video, Katie Thompson-Ashton, owner of The Beauty Editor laser clinic in Stansted, shares the benefits of offering photofacial treatments in your salon.
Why use acid peels in a photofacial?
Using a 20% acid peel such as Lynton’s gentle but effective Tri-Fruit Acid Peel resurfaces the skin prior to the IPL treatment. “We want to remove as many of the dead skin cells as possible so we can as much light in when we move onto the IPL,” says Thompson-Ashton.
Applied following a deep cleanse to remove impurities, the peel brightens the skin while resurfacing, as it contains glycolic acid to break bonds in the outer layer of skin cells.
A two-layer approach to IPL
The illumiFacial implements a double-layer IPL treatment for maximum results. Initially using a 585 wavelength to target red veins, rosacea, and pigmentation in the skin to help with discolouration and create an even skin tone.
This is followed with a 650 wavelength. “This is where we’re targeting texture; we’re stimulating the production of collagen and elastin which we naturally lose as we age,” says Thompson-Ashton. This causes the skin to tighten and smooth fine lines, wrinkles, and other textural problems your client may struggle with.
Post-IPL hydration and protection
Post-laser and IPL treatment is important to hydrate and protect the skin. The illumiFacial uses a trio of serums post treatment to ensure skin is hydrated and protected, starting with Light Soothe, applied as a mask to deeply hydrate the skin.
This is followed by Thompson-Ashton ‘s favourite product, the Activated Stem Cell Serum, which combines three plant stem cells with an activated oxygen delivery system for boosted collagen and elastin production. The final step is Light Protect SPF 50, for protection against harmful UVA and UVB rays.
