How software can help your salon business grow

Ama Quashi, owner of AMA Salon, spent her youth in Brixton immersed in the hub of multicultural Britain – and this unique cultural blend shaped both her life and work.

With an early career in TV and fashion, and work featuring in publications like Vogue and L’Officiel Paris, Quashi’s experience gave her a platform for entrepreneurship. To her, “it felt like a natural progression”.

She teamed up with friend and business partner Latoyah to create AMA, whose philosophy is “to accentuate the natural nail and offer an experience that helps you grow, maintain and love your nails”.

Celebrity attention and a second spot

AMA quickly became one of London’s most sought-after salons, attracting names like Rita Ora and P!nk among her first clients. Quashi has since had her nails featured in campaigns for Prada and Saint Laurent, to name a few.

She opened a second location at The Londoner Hotel, building on early success and bringing her unique approach to the West End. Growth is important for any business, and Fresha has helped AMA stand above the crowd. “Fresha has been great, allowing us to grow and offering us key protection,” says Quashi.

A Fresha business plan for AMA

Using Fresha, Quashi implemented a cancellation policy to protect against no-shows. “Beauty businesses usually factor no-shows and last-minute cancellations into their accounting. We didn’t want to count for £300 worth of no-shows every month,” Quashi explains.

AMA also benefits from a voucher system that is helping grow its client base while reducing staff workload. “Before Fresha, we used printed cards which was labour intensive. Now they’re integrated into the payment setup, so people can buy vouchers online. We’ve even had people from Australia buying for relatives in Brixton!”

With a thriving business and a loyal client base, Quashi is always looking ahead. On how it feels to launch a successful business, she says, “I don’t know if I would say we’re really successful – we’re still expanding. We would love to have AMA salons all over London and maybe even beyond.”

Asked if she would recommend Fresha to someone looking to open a salon, Quashi said, “I definitely would. It’s easy, accessible and offers the partnership you need at any stage of your business.”
