Interview with Liz Holmes

Professional Spa & Wellness Convention returns to Professional Beauty in London on February 28-29, 2016, once again attracting some of the most senior speakers in, and outside of, the industry. We talked to Liz Holmes, National Health and Beauty Manager at Virgin Active, about the topics, presentations and the key issues facing the sector.

How would you describe your presenting style? What would you say is your approach as a speaker?
I try to share things with the audience which I wish I had known earlier in my career. My style is fairly honest and direct and always based on real experiences.

What would you say, in general, makes a really good presentation at a business event like this? What does the speaker need to deliver to make it worth the attendees' time (and money) to be there?
It's really in the detail. Sharing small things which have made a big difference can leave a lasting impact. I feel that for the speaker, preparation is really important to ensure that the information is thoroughly thought through with answers ready for any questions which may come up.

What made you interested in speaking as part of the Spa Leadership panel?
I am fascinated by the behaviour of teams and what makes them successful and still learning how to be a better leader in different situations.

Is it possible to give an overview of what you will be covering as part of your presentation?
I will be tak
ing the myths out of leadership and introducing the leadership chain and how to become an effective link within it.

What do you hope delegates will take away from this session?
I hope that they will have an interesting perspective on what they are already doing and why it works well and some insight into why some of the things they are doing may not be working quite so well.

Which would you say are the biggest challenges and the biggest opportunities currently facing the global spa and beauty industries?
Finding and keeping great people is a big challenge across the UK spa industry and the biggest opportunity is in the demand from our clients for new experiences which fit with their lifestyles.

Why are networking and education events such as the Professional Spa & Wellness Convention important for the industry?
Whether you find a new brand, make a new friend or get a new idea...networking and education make the spa industry go round!
