Ispa report reveals record revenue for US spa industry
Revenue for the US spa industry hit an all-time high in 2016, according to new figures from the International Spa Association (Ispa)
US spa industry revenue totalled US$16.8 billion in 2016, according to the annual Ispa foundation study, carried out by PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) on behalf of the association.
The 2016 revenue figures, released from a preview of the full report, represented a 3.1% increase on the US$16.3bn number recorded for 2015.
The annual Ispa spa study of the US spa industry looks at total revenue; number of spa visits; number of spa locations; revenue per visit and number of employees across the us spa sector. The overall number of spa visits were up 2.5% between 2015 and 2016, rising from 179 to 184 million.
Ispa President Lynne McNees said: “We’re thrilled to see our industry’s hard work and dedication pay off, with more and more consumers enjoying spas.
“An increase in visits means higher demand for spa services, which demonstrates a very positive outlook. As jobs are created to meet this demand, we will continue to promote the benefits of a career in the spa industry.”
Spa locations across the country increased by a moderate 1.1%, from 21,020 in 2015, to 21,260 in 2016. The number of people working in the spa sector in America saw a similar level of growth.
The 1.6% increase saw employee numbers go from 359,300 in may 2016 to 365,200 in may 2017.
The full report will be release in September.
