Professional Spa & Wellness North speaker: Angie Petkovic

The second Professional Spa & Wellness North is taking place as part of Professional Beauty North at the Manchester Central exhibition centre on September 20-21.

We chat to Angie Petkovic, managing director of UK PR and marketing firm Apt PR, about her participation in the Social media strategies to retain and grow your existing customer base session - and the event

What made you want to speak on the topic of Social media strategies to retain and grow your existing customer base?
Social media is a very effective way of keeping in touch with existing customers and gaining new ones, and it is also really affordable for spas and salons. 59.9% of the UK population actively use at least one social media account, so it’s quite likely that more than half your potential customers will find you and be happy to keep in touch with you via social media.

What do you plan to cover in the session?
The discussion will give an overview of the potential platforms that can be used and provide insight into how they can be used effectively. One thing that will be a key focus is ensuring that any strategy is sustainable and enjoyable.

What do you hope people will take away from the session?
I hope people will leave feeling inspired; able to get to grips with social media if they haven’t already started, and deliver effective content so that their rewards exceed the effort.

What are the most important elements that events such as Professional Spa & Wellness North add to the industry?
Without a doubt it is about keeping up to date with the industry. Businesses can learn new things, share existing knowledge, grow, develop and strategise in an environment that is external to their own business, which is a huge benefit.

Which other programmes and sessions are you particularly looking forward to?
Managing online reviews to grow your reputation should be a really interesting one and something I’m looking forward to getting a perspective on from Wahanda. I’m also hoping to pop into the holistic seminars run by the Federation of Holistic Therapists as part of Professional Beauty North.

Which do you think are the most exciting developments in the spa industry at the moment?
We cannot get away from the words wellness and wellbeing but aside from these being the current buzzwords, I am really excited about what they represent. This global trend gives spas, salons and clinics the opportunity to devise some really amazing and innovative new treatments.

It’s also shining a light on the industry, highlighting its ability to support other industries and individuals, including healthcare patients. It’s not so much the trend that excites me, but watching how different businesses are delivering on it.
