Stressed Generation X females driving wellness travel trend in 2020

A survey by global luxury travel network Virtuoso has revealed that reducing stress and anxiety will be the foremost aim of wellness travellers in the New Year.

The study also highlighted that the typical wellness traveller is a Generation X woman who most frequently goes on trips with either a small group of friends or alone.

Virtuoso, a network of agencies specialising in luxury and experiential travel, named meditation and mindfulness as the top travel activity for wellness travellers in 2020.

This is followed by spa treatments, such as relaxing massages, with spiritual and mental wellness mentioned in the survey as significant emerging trends.

Although the US tops the study’s list of wellness travel destinations for 2020, Asian destinations featured strongly with Bali and Thailand following close behind.

Looking to the future, Bhutan and Vietnam were cited as wellness destinations on the rise.

Virtuoso specialists report that wellness travel sales are pacing solidly for 2020 with 45% saying they expect sales to increase as we move into a new year. Elsewhere, 98% predicted that the trend for wellness travel will continue to rocket.

Holistic training, boutique gyms and plant-based eating are among the other wellness trends set to take 2020 by storm.
