The festival make-up trends set to take over in 2023
The return of Glastonbury this weekend means one thing: the UK festival season is back for 2023, and with that comes festival make-up looks we're about to obsesses over through the summer months.
Whilst last year saw the rise of graphic liners, festival foils, and lots of nods to neon, 2023 brings the opportunity for a whole new bunch of trends we can't wait to try.
When it comes to inspo for the festival season, we asked two of the best MUAs in the beauty buisness, Yong-Chin Breslin and Evelyn Byrne, to giev us their top trend predictions for 2023.
Complimentary colours
"One trend I can definitely see becoming popular during this year's festival season is complimentary colour eye looks, such as the one I have created above," shares Byrne.
"Festival-goers tend to wear different colors and patterns, and often love to coordinate their makeup to their outfit."
The great thing about this trend is that it can be adapted to each clients comfort zone, as Byrne explains, "The ways a complimentary colours look can be worn rangse from a graphic eye look, to smokey eye look, or even an ombré liner look simply just using two colours that work well together to create a statement."
When it comes to creating the look on your clients, Byrne suggests starting with your colour choice.
Vivid Vision
"Being a professional MUA who juggles working with clients with social media, I've seen colourful makeup looks coming and going over the years, and this year they have started to creep back onto my feed," shares Byrne.
"Rainbow eye looks are quick to create and super effective. You place your first colour on, then slowly blend it into the next… so on and so forth.
"The look I created in the image above shows how your can wear colour without having to wear a full rainbow eye look if that’s not for them. You can also incorporate glitter and diamonds to these looks to add that extra wow factor!"
When it comes to creating these looks, one product is an absolute essential:
"Creating vivid eye looks will always require a good quality eyeshadow palette. This style of makeup is always built in layers which I call sandwich stages.
"You start with your first shade then slowly incorporate the next until you are happy with the overall blend. As I mentioned you can add glitter, gems and even gold flakes to spice up a look like this even more."
Glitter and glam

"Festival season is always about glitter, rhinestones, and just accessorizing the whole face," shares Breslin.
"I think this summer we'll be seeing lots of shimmers, lots of glitter on top, and the best way to achieve something that's a really multidimensional shimmer is by laying down your base product first.
"After you've got your base, start your bigger glitters, and then work in with smaller forms of glitter, and finish by working in an shimmering eyeshadow on top. This will result in a really multidimensional like pigmented glitter look."
For your more daring clients, don't be afraid to take the look to another level with rhinestones.

"When you're applying rhinestones, the easiest way to apply smaller ones is by using blue tack or a really waxy crayon to pick up the stone," explains Breslin.
"Always dot out your glue mark out where you're going to place your rhinestones on the face, and then apply them with the blue tack or waxy crayon so you don't have to fiddle around with tweezers."
Keep it cool (toned)

"I n terms of color, I think we'll see a lot of cool toned shades at this year's festivals," predicts Breslin.
"Think about your blues and purples, and go for a "Euphoria" vibe," she adds.
"The way to get the best color impact is to lay down a cream product and then work the powder on top, and then add a shimmer on top as well to make them really pop."
If you want to take your colours to another level, Breslin suggests that you "lay down a white base or a black base, and it will make the colors that you put on top of it really stand out."
