UK spas are signing up for Global Wellness Day this Saturday

By Eve Oxberry, editor

This Saturday is Global Wellness Day and spas across the UK are getting involved. The day is organised by non-profit organisation Global Wellness Institute and is the brainchild of Belgin Aksoy, who runs Richmond Nua spa in Turkey.

The first event ran in 2012 and the idea is to encourage clients to be more mindful of their health and wellbeing for at least one day a year – the second Saturday each June.

Here in the UK, Rockliffe Hall spa, near Darlington, is celebrating the day with a one-off spa-day for clients, which includes a nutrition talk and mindful relaxation session and a choice of any 45-minute holistic wellness boosting treatment, as well as lunch and use of the spa.

The Four Seasons Hotel group is also getting involved with its properties around the world, including its Hampshire spa (pictured above), which is organising a 45-minute wellness walk across its 500-acre estate, including historic highlights.

The UK Spa Association has become an official ambassador of the day and is calling on its members to get involved. Seaweed brand Voya is also on board, with co-founder Kira Walton recently named as the official ambassador for Ireland.

The aim of the day is to help clients be aware of and tackle the most common illnesses, which will effect all of us in some way at some point in our lives: depression, sleep problems, stress, poor nutrition, inactivity, obesity and heart disease – and I can’t think of a better reason than that to back the initiative if you can.
