Everything you need to know about the Nail Competition at PB London 2022
For the second year running, Professional Beauty is collaborating with The Federation of Nail Professionals (aka The Feds) on the prestigious Nail Competitions at Professional Beauty London, with nine exciting categories to enter.
Entries will open very soon for the Nail Competitions, but for now, here’s everything you need to know about entering and competing. Register to attend the show for free to be one of the first to find out when entries officially open.
The 2022 PB London Nail Competitions will take place at ExCel London on April 3–4, with each of the categories open to students and professionals alike. Educators will also have the option to compete in the educator skills challenge.
The Feds is an industry body, set up by leading session tech Marian Newman, that supports the nail profession and champions high standards in the industry, which is what makes them the perfect partner for our Nail Competitions (which are taking place later this year).
The 2022 Professional Beauty London Nail Competition categories are:
ON THE SHOW FLOOR CATEGORIES:
The Perfect Manicure
Competitor levels: Student/Nail Professional
Purpose:To focus on perfect and safe preparation of the cuticle and surrounding skin and immaculate painting using traditional nail polish. A befor picture must be taken on a smartphone and handed to the judges by the model at the time of judging.
Nail Art Challenge: Theme – Seasonal
Competitor levels: Student/Nail Professional
Brief: The design should be based around a seasonal celebration or popular activity for the period the competition falls in.
Purpose: To demonstrate good use of products, creativity, and the ability to provide a nail art service in a commercial timing.
UV Gel Polish
Competitor levels: Student/Nail Professional
Purpose: To demonstrate accurate and safe application of UV gel-polish.
Salon Enhancements
Competitor levels: Student/Nail Professional
Purpose: Demonstrate the ability to provide structurally perfect commercial enhancements with an accuracy in the length of the free-edge.
Learn A Skill
Competitor levels: Student/Nail Professional
Purpose: For the times when a client arrives with a design they want you to reproduce. Show an ability to replicate, plus show your creativity in using a technique with your own twist.
Competition Enhancements
Competitor level: Nail Professional (Open to all Levels)
Sub Categories –
Session one – Liquid & Powder (one hand)
Session two – UV Cured Product (one hand)
Purpose: Demonstrate accurate structuring and manipulation of liquid and powder, or, any UV cured product. Create the perfect competition nail using the elongation of the nail bed technique using an opaque cover pink/beige.
Educator Skills Challenge
Competitor level: Educator
Purpose: open to educators only. Showcase your skills to demonstrate what you are able to teach your students. Your finished nails will be featured in Professional Beauty magazine.
OFF THE SHOW FLOOR CATEGORIES:
Instagram Photographic (Theme – 80s‘ PUNK)
Competition level: Nail Professional (open to all levels)
Purpose: To demonstrate your skills at creating a fabulous image suitable for an Instagram post.
Media Themed Statement “Press-ons in a Box” (Theme – 80s‘ PUNK)
Competitor level: Nail Professional (open to all levels)
Entries should be sent to Professional Beauty by registered post or bring it to the competition at the time of morning registration on the Monday.
Purpose: To demonstrate your creative ability following a brief. Pre-made tips that follow the brief and theme. Make a statement!
The nail competitions will also offer the chance to be included in challenges with the opportunity of taking home a trophy. See this year’s challenges below:
Team Challenge:
Competition Categories
A team of nail professionals (any mix of competitor levels) working towards highest accumulated score across the two days of competition. Three or four team members. Each team member must complete a minimum of two categories. Any competition category combination can be included with the exception of Educator Skills Challenge, Instagram Photographic and Press Ons In A Box.
Educator Team Challenge
For entrants of the Educator Team Challenge. Teams of three or four maximum. To encourage independent or brand education teams to work together and support each other in competition.
Nail Student of the Year
Highest accumulated score across all categories entered (the more categories you enter the more opportunity to win).
Nail Professional of the Year
Highest accumulated score across all categories entered (the more categories you enter the more opportunity to win).
