Scheduled to open in the spring of 2014, The Gainsborough Bath Spa will be a 99-rooom property spanning two floors and 1,300sq m. Stretching across three Grade II listed Georgian buildings, the former hospital complex, which dates back to 1824, will house the Spa Village Bath, offering access to the city’s famous thermal waters.
The spa will contain three thermal pools, traditional and infrared saunas, a steam room, an ice chamber and 11 treatment rooms, including a couples’ suite with private thermal water access, a beauty salon and an apothecary. The spa philosophy will be centred on aromatherapy, with treatment options including aquatic body therapies. Other wellness amenities at The Gainsborough Bath Spa will include a 24-hour fitness centre.
Among the hotel’s 99 rooms and suites are the two Spa Village guest rooms and the Spa Village suite. Located immediately above the spa, the rooms and suite provide easy access to the spa and feature thermal waters-filled baths. Guests in the Spa Village rooms and suite will also receive daily massages during their stay.
The culinary concept at the hotel will fuse English cuisine with the Asian food heritage of the Malaysia-based YTL Hotels group behind the property. Dining venues will incorporate The Gainsborough Restaurant, the Lobby Lounge and the Private Dining Room. Other facilities at the hotel will comprise a series of meeting and banqueting facilities, such as the Chapel Terrace and the 91.5sq m Chapel Room.
The Gainsborough Bath Spa is the most recent addition to the property portfolio of high-end hotel group YTL Hotels, whose worldwide holdings include the Pangkor Laut Resort and the Gaya Island Resort in Malaysia, the Surin Phuket in Thailand and the Sydney Harbour Marriott Hotel in Australia.
The hotel interiors have been designed by Champalimaud Design, a New York-based design firm specialising in hospitality projects, whose clients include the Espa spa at The Peninsula New York, the Spa by La Prairie at the Hotel Bel-Air, the Waldorf Astoria in New York and The Dorchester in London.
