Beauty fools

By Lucy Douglas, PB assistant editor

You’ve probably spotted by now that PB’s exclusive on the launch of a new flavoured nail polish range may not have been entirely true (see article below). Sorry – we couldn’t resist.

But we weren’t the only ones. We’ve been scouring to find pick of the April Fool pranks from the beauty world. Here’s what we came up with:

Wahanda recommends Full English Facial

A personal favourite of the PB team is this blog about the imminent success of the Full English Facial. We particularly love the detailed explanation of the anti-ageing benefits of baked beans and the plumping effects of the topical application of bacon and sausage grease. Mmmmmmm.

10L Bioderma Sensibio

The much-loved French consumer skin brand is apparently launching a mammoth 10 litre-sized bottle of its hero cleanser, the Sensibio H20. That’s the same as a good sized jerry can.

Carlton Institute at the London Marathon

Runners of the London Marathon will supposedly be treated to manicures, body wraps and spray tans at the half way point of the event, courtesy of Carlton Institute. PB’s own Suzanne Braithwaite is running the Marathon on April 13, and is excited about her mid-run body wrap. Full disclosure: runners must be willing to ignore the inevitable sweat streak of the tan.

Barry M Tongue Paint

For just £6.49 you could be the proud owner of consumer make-up and nails brand Barry M’s latest launch: TLC Tongue Paint (featured image). It’s a mascara shaped bottle with a little paintbrush on the end to help turn your tongue into your latest accessory. So far only available in purple.

Flavoured polishes are latest innovation in pro nail market

A new company has launched supplying speciality nail products to the professional market, including flavoured nail polish. The new brand, named Flair Pool Nails, launches today and is the brainchild of former nail tech Margery Cougar, and will feature 12 flavoured polishes.

Hero products in the range include Marmite flavoured polish, Stuck In Tar, shimmering pearl prawn cracker-flavoured Snap To It, and the fiery orange Scotch Bonnet chilli flavoured shade, The Heat Is On.

Cougar said, “I had the idea when I was making toast and accidentally spilt some Marmite on my fingers, and I thought it would be a great idea for a business. There’s definitely a gap in the professional market for polishes that offer something a little different.”

Other flavours of polish in the range include mango chutney, Szechuan chicken, detoxifying kale and blue stilton. Cougar also revealed plans to launch a summer range of barbecue flavours, as well as a festive range in November.
