CTIA loses DWP approval

The Cosmetic Treatments and Injectables Association (CTIA) has been removed from the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) approved list of training suppliers following a complains from the Independnet Healthcare Advisory Service (IHAS).

The CTIA told Professional Beauty that it had secured funding from the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) for experienced therapists looking to boost their qualifications by undertaking training with CTIA to help them to re-enter the world of work following redundancy or career breaks (see Professional Beauty July 2012, page 11).

In the same issue of the magazine, CTIA placed an advertisement that stated it’s training was “Now DWP Government Funded and Backed”.

However, following a complaint from the IHAS Treatments You Can Trust register, Lord Freud, the DWP Minister for Welfare Reform, said: “It appears that a single purchase of the course from the Cosmetic Treatments Injectables Association was made by a Jobcentre Plus Direct using a flexible fund that allows low value discretionary funding for training that will lead directly to a job. In this case the customer had a job offer that was subject to her undertaking this training.”

He added: “Following the query from the IHAS…We have amended the Jobcentre Plus guidance with specific reference to this type of training, clarifying that only doctors, dentists and registered nurses should be permitted to apply for funding for this type of training."

He said that CTIA had now been removed from the Government’s procurement register.
