Discovery of protein FOX01 could impact advanced treatment research

Recent research has uncovered a new molecule that’s crucial to the wound healing process. A study carried out by academics in the US found that the protein FOX01 played a critical role in the activity involved in repairing the skin.

The findings could stimulate major developments in the markets for cosmeceutical skincare products, or in machine technology for advanced treatments.

As part of the research, the authors of the study bred mice that lacked the protein, and observed the wound healing process compared to a control group of mice. Those that lacked FOX01 healed significantly more slowly than the control group.

The research found that FOX01 was crucial to the function of growth factors critical to wound repair, such as TGF-beta1. It also suggested that the protein helped to protect cells against oxidative damage.
