Fake Bake UK CEO Sandra McClumpha steps down

Sandra McClumpha has stepped down from the role of UK chief executive of Fake Bake after 12 years at the helm.

The tanning brand's US owners, Joe and Mary Cooper, have set up a UK subsidiary called Fake Bake United to distribute the brand across Europe.

McClumpha, who began distributing Fake Bake products in the UK in 2001, and is widely credited with building the brand, will stay on as a consultant to the company but will not sit on the board.

While it was reported that McClumpha had bought out the US owners back in 2008, the company told Professional Beauty that a deal was arranged but never went through.

McClumpha's company, Fake Bake UK, is now being wound up as a result of debts related to a separate business owned by former director Alan Love.

Fake Bake United will employ the majority of the team from Fake Bake UK, as well as some new staff, and has established a warehouse and offices in Scotland.

The new company said in a statement to salons: "Customers can be assured that they will have access to all of the wonderful Fake Bake products through the new distributor."
