Germaine de Capuccini has developed the first 100% biodegradable and compostable cosmetic container
Germaine de Capuccini are the very first skincare house to invest in the research and technology to create packaging for products that are 100% biodegradable and compostable. This is truly revolutionary and shows continued commitment by Germaine de Capuccini to the environment.
A consortium formed by Germaine de Capuccini, A. Schulman, Petroplast and the alliance of the technological institutes AINA – AIMPLAS met on the 8th July in Alcoy to finish the project of three years by which they have designed, researched and created the first biodegradable and compostable cosmetic container.
The Biotube Cosmetic project began in 2011, led by Germaine de Capuccini, has involved almost 3 years of research. The greatest difficulties to overcome have been to reach a life cycle of two years and to achieve compostability in less than 6 months of a cosmetic container.
The raw material of renewable components, of agro-food origin, has been formulated by the multinational A. Shulman. Petroplast, a company dedicated to the manufacture of cosmetic and pharmaceutical tubes, has been in charge of transforming the raw material into a container, with strict validation from Germaine de Capuccini. The alliance AINA-AIMPLAS has given its technological support to the project.
The study, supported by the Centre for the Industrial Technological Development (CDTI), and co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), has involved an investment of around 1,000,000 Euros.
The Biotube Cosmetic project is an advance not only for its capacity of biodegradation without environmental impact, but also for achieving for the first time the total compatibility between this type of container and cosmetic product.
Among the main advantages stands out the reduction of energy consumption, from the origin until it reaches the end client, thus reducing the emissions of CO2 by 10%. In addition, thanks to the compostability, Biotube Cosmetic will become organic matter in less than 6 months, opposed to the 400 years that a container of traditional plastic requires.
Germaine de Capuccini are continuously striving to achieve and exceed their environmental commitments. This latest development builds upon Germaine de Capuccini being the first company in the professional skincare sector to become CO2ZERO certified; an accreditation for companies committed to compensating for and reducing their CO2 emissions.
