Liverpool is top tanning city in the UK
Liverpool is the ‘most bronzed’ city in the UK, says Superdrug. The health and beauty retailer conducted a survey into the self-tanning habits of the UK’s residents and compiled an info graphic highlighting the results.
Essex town Basildon was the second most tanned, followed by Manchester in third place, Birmingham fourth, then Glasgow fifth.
While Liverpool came out as the place where residents are most concerned with having a year-round tan (according to the amount of fake tan sold by Superdrug there), Cardiff came out bottom of the list, with Superdrug selling three times more tan in Liverpool than the Welsh capital. London and Brighton were also far down the list, suggesting that the popular look in these southern cities is more effortless.
The survey also found that the most frequent users of self tanning products across the country are aged 25-34, and that the store’s best-selling brands include salon favourite St Tropez. Overall, Superdrug sells 1 million bottles of tanning product each year.
Megan Potter, head of beauty at Superdrug commented: “It’s fascinating to see a dramatic difference in sales across various cities in the UK. Liverpool ladies are renowned for their glam style and always look red carpet ready wherever they go.”
Potter added: “We’ve also seen a significant growth in sales of bronzing in the Essex area with programmes such as The Only Way is Essex fuelling the appetite for a perma-tan”.
