The Global Wellness Summit (GWS) has appointed Senegalese entrepreneur Magatte Wade to its board of directors.

Wade, the founder of Senegal-based skincare brand Tiossan, was a keynote speaker at the 2014 summit in Morocco. She was also given the inaugural Leading Woman in Wellness Award at the event.

Susie Ellis, chairman and chief executive of the Global Wellness Institute, the umbrella organisation of which the GWS forms part, said:

“Magatte brings a unique wellness perspective to our organisation and I’m pleased to also announce that she will head up our new African initiative, which will be focused on expanding the message of Africa’s unique health, beauty and healing traditions to today’s global wellness market.”

Wade, whose CV also include setting up Adina World Beverages, based on Senegalese recipes, has also been named a Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum and one of the 20 Youngest Power Women in Africa by Forbes.

Wade said: “Having the opportunity to play such a pivotal role in global wellness is an absolute honour. And I look forward to helping educate the world about the extraordinary, far too little understood, health and wellness traditions across Africa.”
