Professional Spa & Wellness North speaker: Glenis Wade
Glenis Wade is a management consultant and leadership development trainer, with a spa practitioner/manager background.
On September 20, she’s speaking on the topic of Spa Managers – How to be a Good and Effective Leader at Professional Spa & Wellness North, taking place as part of Professional Beauty North at Manchester Central.
Here, she shares her thoughts on the topic, the industry and next year’s event
What made you want to speak on the topic of Spa managers – how to be a good and effective leader?
I know that leadership skills are highly sought after among spa managers around the world. And being a former university lecturer on the subject of leadership and team building, I’m able to share knowledge and help build skills for those in management positions in spas.
In addition, my 15-year spa and beauty career included being a treatment manager and this background will help delegates gain valuable leadership insights that are relevant to the everyday situations they face.
Would do you plan to look at in the session?
The session will cover:
- Examples of different spa leadership styles (reporting from research)
- How best to respond to challenging team behaviours
- How to create healthy work environments
What do you hope people will take away from the session?
An awareness of the type of leader they are and the types of roles and motivational styles that are most prevalent within their teams; insight about healthy and unhealthy leadership styles and what to do if they find they need to change their own way of working with their team.
What are the most important elements events such as Professional Spa & Wellness North add to the industry?
These events help delegates learn from industry experts while sharing and comparing their own experiences and updating their practical knowledge. They have the potential to be inspiring.
Which other sessions are you particularly looking forward to at this year's conference?
I’m looking forward to hearing Colin Farndon, spa director at Armathwaite Hall, talk about his corporate offerings as that is a service that I’ve enjoyed providing within five star spa spaces in London.
Are there any particular topics you would like to see on the programme next year?
It would be useful to have a discussion about how to best evidence the benefits of the spa treatments you offer.
Glenis Wade's Spa Managers – How to be a Good and Effective Leader session is at 11.50 on Sunday September 20, as part of Professional Spa & Wellness North
