The spa at Four Seasons Hotel London at Ten Trinity Square opened on April 1, as part of a wider project by the hotel group to offer a more comprehensive wellbeing programme to guests. “Four Seasons wants to offer as many amenities and facilities as possible when customers come to stay and spa is an essential part of that,” says Anjana Nicolas, spa director at Ten Trinity Square. “Every hotel that opens will now have a spa.”
Ten Trinity Square’s 18,100sq ft spa is situated on the hotel’s lower-ground floor and features eight treatment rooms – including a couple’s suite and hammam for steam rituals, an indoor swimming pool, vitality pool, sauna, relaxation zones, gym and a nail salon set within a circular chamber. “London has some exceptional spas but we’re the only one of our kind and size in the city’s square mile,” explains Nicolas. “Conceptually we’re going to be quite different.”
Mix and match
The spa’s layout merges the old with the new, with ancient Roman architecture set against a modern interior design. “We’ve contrasted the intensity of the building’s historical rows of classical columns and clean lines with contemporary elements to give the spa timeless character,” explains Nicolas. “Materials inspired by minerals mined by the Romans is used throughout, including marble floors in the nail studio, alongside modern mosaics and tinted glass in rich colours.”
This feeling is also reflected in the treatment rooms, which have mood lighting, wooden flooring and timber wall panelling. They also have a domed ceiling, which Nicolas says “break up the square pillars to make a cocooning environment.” She adds, “Circular shapes are far more relaxing because you feel there is movement and this is the atmosphere we want to create.”
A lot of thought has also gone into the spa menu, which is focused on treatments that use traditional rituals and natural ingredients. “We’re working with authentic Moroccan line MarocMaroc, which has its roots in sensorial treatments, luxury spa brand Espa and organic skincare Amala, which we’ll be the first spa in the UK to offer,” says Nicolas. It will also carry high-tech Swiss skincare range Dr Burgener, which is used in Four Seasons hotels around the world.
Personal touch
Each brand has designed a signature treatment for the property with the spa’s city clientele in mind. “Amala has created a detoxifying ritual that uses massage and exfoliation and is good for preventing the side effects of pollution, while Espa’s salt stone ritual is perfect for workers with muscle tension and clogged pores,” explains Nicolas. Dr Burgener has created a Skin Fitness facial for the “21st century man”, while MarocMaroc has focused on wellbeing with a cocooning treatment in the hammam.
Nicolas tells me she projects that around 40% of in-house guests will book themselves into the spa in the first year, adding, “My overarching goal is to become the best spa in town. We’ll be benchmarking ourselves against other Four Seasons sites – we’re very competitive as a company and I am as a spa director. All the spas have different USPs, but we all know it takes between one and three years to establish your business.”
