Thermae Bath Spa to be run by Gainsborough owners
Thermae Bath Spa has this week been taken over by YTL Hotels, the Malaysian property arm of corporation that owns the forthcoming Gainsborough Bath Spa Hotel, which is set open this summer.
YTL Hotels took over the operating contract for the iconic Thermae Bath Spa this week from the Thermae Development Company, securing the jobs of the spa’s 170 employees.
Thermae Bath Spa’s former managing director Henk Verschuur, who will stay on in an advisory role, said in a statment, “This heralds the start of a very exciting future. I am extremely proud of what we have achieved at Thermae Bath Spa since opening and am confident that its future is in safe hands.”
This is the third Bath-based business that YTL has in its portfolio, alongside the Gainsborough Bath Spa Hotel, and utilities companies Wessex Water. YTL Hotels has set up a subsidiary, Bath Hotel and Spa Limited (BHSL), which will both the Thermae spa and the new hotel.
The building of the in which is the spa is situated is owned by Bath & North East Somerset Council.
