Voya co-founder Kira Walton becomes Global Wellness Day ambassador
Kira Walton, co-founder of organic Irish skincare brand Voya has been named Ireland’s official ambassador for Global Wellness Day.
Taking place June 13, Global Wellness Day is a not-for-profit project dedicated to highlighting the importance of a healthy lifestyle and of physical and mental wellness.
Founded in Turkey, Global Wellness Day takes place on the second Saturday of June every year and has been gaining increasing global ground in the past year.
The 39 spa and wellness industry ambassadors for the day now include Sammy Gharieni, founder and chief executive of the Gharieni group, Frank Pitsikalis, chief executive and founder of software company Resort Suite, Alla Sokolova, co-founder and general manager of IWC Balans and Adília Oliveira, spa director at The Yeatman hotel in Portugal.
Ambassadors also include Elena Bogacheva, founder and president of the Spa & Wellness International Council in Russia, Adrian Egger, managing director of Thermarium and Charlie Thompson, chairman of the UK Spa Association and group spa projects and support at Q Hotels – among others.
Global Wellness Day has a seven-step manifesto that everyone is encouraged to follow to improve their personal wellbeing, and that of others: walk one hour a day, drink more water, don’t use plastic bottles, eat organic and locally sourced produce, do a good deed, eat a family dinner and go to bed at 10pm.
Walton said of her role as ambassador: “I am delighted to have been appointed ambassador for Ireland. To draw attention to the basic need to feel well is extremely important in creating a healthy and happier world.
Global Wellness Day has a natural fit with VOYA; both promoting a healthy, balanced and contented lifestyle. We are encouraging our spa partners to take part in and host Global Wellness Day activities to boost awareness around this.”
