Video: The dos and don'ts of waxing guy brows

Take advantage of the male grooming boom by offering a suite of waxing services for men, including guy brows. Our waxing pros explain how you can wax male clients' eyebrows in three easy steps.

1. Don’t get carried away with the wax

It can be easy when working on a client to accidentally separate the brow hairs a little bit too much. Sam Marshall, owner of The Beauty Guru in Manchester, recommends some small tricks to ensure your male clients’ brows look groomed but not overdone.

“If you put your little finger in the middle [between the brows], whatever’s underneath that you can safely remove,” she says, “and then you can look at their face shape to see if you want to take it any further out.”

When waxing or threading underneath the brows, Marshall advises “taking it in a straight line heading outwards because this gives a really natural look. So, it’s just about removing any stray hairs below the brow line.”

2. Don’t be afraid to chip into the brows

Taking inspiration from his experience working in barbershops, owner of Axiom Men’s Grooming Salon Andy Rouillard shares a technique that takes the bulk out of the hair and length, while maintaining a masculine and natural look.

“Brush the hair up with a mascara wand and then chip into it with the scissors to take some of the bulk and length out – it keeps it looking relatively masculine and natural but neat.”

3. Manage your clients waxing expectations

To avoid disappointing your customer, Jenny Hunter, head of education for waxing brand Waxu, suggests being as communicative as possible so your male client know exactly what will happen in treatment.

“It’s always good to try and meet the client’s expectations because some guys like a clean finish on their eyebrows while others like it to be left a little bit rougher,” explains Hunter.
