New analysis reveals where men can most easily prioritise appearance, affordability and general health

As Movember focuses national attention on men’s physical and mental health, new research from menswear retailer House of Cavani has identified the best UK cities for men’s wellbeing, spanning grooming services, affordability and access to wellness resources.

The data compares 30 cities across metrics including the number of barbers and gyms, the cost of grooming and personal care, and search volume for wellbeing terms.

Glasgow named the best UK city for men to look after their appearance

The analysis reveals Glasgow as the number-one city for men focused on grooming, fitness and personal style.

The Scottish city ranked top thanks to its combination of high-quality services and strong consumer demand:

  • 541 barber shops (0.91 per 1,000 people)
  • 323 gyms (0.55 per 1,000 people)
  • 8,100 monthly “gym near me” searches
  • 9,900 monthly “barber near me” searches
  • Strong average ratings: 4.9 for barbers and 4.76 for gyms

Glasgow’s abundance of barber shops, gyms and shopping options makes it the leading UK destination for men taking their appearance and wellbeing seriously.

Newcastle upon Tyne ranked second, with 205 barber shops, 148 gyms and 4,400 monthly “gym near me” searches, while Belfast secured third position with 220 barber shops, 169 gyms and 1,900 gym-related searches each month.

These findings highlight a continued rise in male grooming behaviours, from regular barber visits to increased gym engagement.

Dundee revealed as the UK’s cheapest city for men to maintain their appearance

When it comes to affordability, Dundee takes the top spot as the most cost-effective UK city for men’s grooming and lifestyle maintenance.

The Scottish coastal city offers some of the lowest average prices across key spending categories:

  • Haircut: £11
  • Gym membership: £28
  • Personal care: £75.98
  • Clothing: £219

This makes Dundee one of the most budget-friendly cities for men who want to stay well-groomed without overspending. Clothing costs are particularly competitive, with Dundee tying for the third-lowest average clothing spend in the UK.

Second-place Plymouth and third-place Coventry also offer low costs across haircuts, gym memberships and clothing, while cities like Liverpool, where clothing averages £319, appear significantly more expensive in comparison.

London ranked the best UK city for men’s overall wellbeing

While Glasgow leads on appearance and Dundee on affordability, London has been named the top UK city for men’s general wellbeing.

Key results include:

  • 27,931 hectares of green space – the largest volume of any UK city
  • 5,400 monthly searches for “meditation”
  • 1,900 monthly searches for “wellness”
  • 12,100 monthly searches for “spa break”

London outperforms all other cities in wellness-related search behaviours, suggesting high consumer interest in mental and physical health support, relaxation services and self-care.

The capital’s vast green spaces also offer extensive opportunities for outdoor activities such as cycling, swimming and running.

Birmingham, Manchester, Leeds and Glasgow complete the top five UK cities for men’s wellbeing, based on search demand and access to wellness spaces.

Men’s wellbeing continues to rise in importance

As Movember amplifies awareness around men’s mental and physical health, this data shows that cities across the UK are increasingly supporting men’s self-care needs, from grooming and affordability to wellness infrastructure.

With strong regional performance, men don’t have to travel far to find a city that supports healthy, confident living.
