Jean-Claude Baumgarten, chairman and chief executive of Crewe Associates and former president and chief executive of the World Travel & Tourism Council, Ophelia Yeung, co-director of the Center for Science, Technology and Economic Development at global research firm SRI International and Josef Woodman, founder and chief executive of Patients Beyond Borders are among the speakers at the first Global Wellness Tourism Congress (GWTC)

Held as part of this year’s Global Spa & Wellness Summit in New Delhi, India, the inaugural GTWC will bring delegates from around the world, including representatives from the ministries of tourism in 30 different countries, together to discuss the future of the wellness tourism sector.

Findings from the Wellness Tourism Economic Impact Study, compiled by non-profit research institute SRI International, which in 2010 estimated the global wellness tourism market to be worth £68bn ($106bn), will also be presented at the one-day event.

Commenting on the introductory congress, Jean-Claude Baumgarten said: “Wellness tourism is poised to reshape tourism as we know it. Millions more every year are demanding destinations that deliver physical, emotional, spiritual and environmental health, along with enjoyment.” The GWTC will also include a think-tank session, in which participants will discuss common global goals for driving the market forward.
