Beauty therapists among UK’s happiest workers

More than 79% of beauty therapists are happy with their job, although more than half say the financial rewards are inadequate, finds the City & Guilds Career Happiness Index.

Along with their hairdresser counterparts, beauty therapists came second in the nationwide list of happiest workers, citing a good work/life balance as a top reason for enjoying their job.

The research indicated that those in the beauty industry were more likely to be self-employed than workers in other sectors – 34% of respondents – another factor found to contribute to worker happiness.

Overall, the Career Happiness Index revealed that those in vocationally-trained roles were happier than those in academically-trained jobs – 65% against 58%. Interestingly, the research found that those earning in excess of £60,000 a year were the least happiest, at just 22%.
